The Government have announced a £1billion catch up grant to support any learning that was lost through the disruption to the children’s learning as a result of COVID 19. The payment each school is to receive is £380 per child from Reception to Year 6. At St John’s that will mean a grant of £24,738.
Each teacher has assessed the September starting points of the children in their class and the gaps that have been identified to put their progress in line with the National Expectation. To aid the class teacher to bridge the gap, we have created an additional 0.6 teaching post. This will support the children’s learning and help them to gain any ground they may have lost. In response to the assessments carried out by the class teacher, initially our support is targeting Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) particularly the Year 3 children transitioning. The focus is on phonics and the application of number skills through Guided Reasoning.
Due to our investment in this extra teaching capacity, we have the flexibility to respond and adjust the support to include other areas that may be identified as the year continues to unfold.
